Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty nine.

Hello, welcome to Sunday’s edition of the Isolation Radio show, bringing the sermon of the Melodic Randomiser into your lives for a short burst of musical worship.

The first lesson is read by MGMT; here’s the title track from their Little Dark Age album

Next, if you turn your orders of service to page two, you’ll find the gospel according to Rage Against the Machine. They are insisting that you “Wake Up”, something about which you have very little choice, with this track from their eponymous debut album

And we close today’s devotions with a chapter from the book of Big Audio Dynamite, specifically a verse called “A Party”, taken from This is Big Audio Dynamite

Ah, men. But maybe there’ll be some women in tomorrow’s selection.

Stay safe, be kind, enjoy the rest of your weekend and wake up refreshed for…well, more of the same, I guess.

Peace

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty eight.

Happy Saturday, everyone, I hope you’re all having a successful weekend so far. The weather has been considerably more cooperative today, so the Isolation Radio show is once again coming to you from the birdsong filled garden, the peace otherwise only troubled by the soft murmuring of the Melodic Randomiser as it cogitates on its first selection.

And what a selection! {Possible trigger warning for sensitive souls, concerning outdated gender stereotypes} It’s the mischievous magician of manic melodies himself, Frank Zappa and “Catholic Girls”, from the completely gonzo triple concept album, Joe’s Garage.

Then we have a change of genre, with some soothing Kiwi electropop from Ladyhawke and the title track from her Wild Things album.

And to end on today, back to 1975 for a band who have already popped up once, Be Bop Deluxe, with this track from their Futurama album, “Between the Worlds”

Another trawl through my collection looms large for tomorrow, but until then enjoy your evening and make the most of what you have.

Peace

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty seven.

It is allegedly the end of one of those things we used to call “weeks” but are just now meaningless collections of similar days, but every day is a music day on the Isolation Radio show, thanks to the indispensable if ineffable talents of the Melodic Randomiser.

The first of our eclectic selection today is from the 1982 self-titled debut album by A Flock of Seagulls, this is “DNA”

Which we follow with a track called “The Forgotten People”, by electronic dance music magpies, Thievery Corporation, from their 2008 Radio Retaliation album.

And complete the set with a true classic, and a twofer, from David Bowie‘s sublime 1971 Hunky Dory album; here are “Fill Your Heart” and “Andy Warhol”

What a great start to what I guess we’ll have to call “the weekend”, it even brought the sun back out.

Keep being lovely to each other, the beginning of the end is in sight.

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty six.

We find ourselves once more at the mercy of the Melodic Randomiser, as its arbitrary control over the Isolation Radio show continues with…

“Are You Ready to be Heartbroken” by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, from their utterly perfect 1984 Rattlesnakes album

…rather incongruously followed by some industrial goth strumming from a year earlier; here’s Clan Of Xymox and “Moscoviet Mosquito” from their Subsequent Pleasures album.

And after that somewhat abrasive offering, what better way to sooth your senses than The Art of Noise and the full original video for their sweeping sample-fest “Moments in Love” from 1983’s Into Battle With The Art of Noise album.

There, you can’t say I don’t give you a good variety of tunes.

May your evening be all you wish it to be and may you wake up happy tomorrow, when you can join me for some more unusual combinations.

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty five.

Who’d have thought we’d still be locked down, 35 days into the Isolation Radio show?

Fortunately the Melodic Randomiser never tires of providing us with our daily ration of musical passion, today being no exception.

Number one on the set list is “Running out of Luck” by Bad Lieutenant, side project of Bernard Sumner of New Order, from their debut album, Never Cry Another Tear

The middle slot is filled by Muse and a song from their blistering Absolution album, here’s the official video for “Hysteria”

And the show closer is from Harvey Danger‘s 1997 album Where Have all the Merrymakers Gone? This is “Jack the Lion”

Not a bad threesome, I think you’ll agree.

Have a lovely Tuesday evening and let’s all cross our fingers for more nice weather.

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty four.

Good morn-eve-ternoon to you, wherever you may be on this grey and rainy Tuesday.

Yes, rain!

Nobody mentioned there would be rain as well as a global pandemic, and a social lockdown; so I don’t even have the luxury of sitting in the garden to bring you the Isolation Radio show today, as the Melodic Randomiser isn’t waterproof and it is pretty miserable in our leaky shed.

So, a sofa-bound edition of the show starts like this…

My Morning Jacket, with “I Will Sing You Songs”, from 2003’s It Still Moves album…

…followed, by a truly amazing coincidence, by Dave Grohl; ex-Nirvana drummer and now Foo Fighters frontman, who once described MMJ as his favourite band.

Here he is in his current incarnation, with a song from the Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace album, beware the deceptively quiet intro to “Let it Die”

Which segues rather nicely into the jangly psychedelia of The Black Angels for our third and final track of the day, this is “The Executioner” from the 2014 album, Clear Lake Forest

I hope you have better weather where you are and whatever the climate, I aim to bring you more aural sunshine tomorrow.

Stay safe, stay dry, be froody to each other.

Peace

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty three.

The start of another calender week (I’m not prepared to attempt anything more specific than that) means, well, it means exactly the same as every other day for the last 32, it’s time for more from the Melodic Randomiser, coming to you via the Isolation Radio show.

Dusting off a classic 1982 album to start with; The Party’s Over by a band which was the brainchild of the late, great Mark Hollis, this is “Mirror Man” by Talk Talk

And staying in the decade that fashion forgot, here’s some Gary Numan and an album track from 1980’s Telekon, called “Photograph”

There is no obvious connection to the final song today, but that’s the nature of the Randomiser and its still a fine selection; The Wombats and 2015’s “Sex and Question Marks” from their Glitterbug album.

I hope your week has got off to a positive start, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. I’ll be back here tomorrow, reality permitting, to provide the soundtrack to a small part of your Tuesday.

Have a marvellous Monday.

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty two.

Into the second full month of the Isolation Radio show now and the Melodic Randomiser has picked a real corker to start us off today.

The world lost a great rock and roll star when Malcolm Young died three years ago, but “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)” is him and his brother Angus at their thundering best. Here’s AC/DC, from the classic 1979 album, Highway to Hell

Taking a hard left turn away from heavy riffing now, with some gentle string quartet accompaniment to David Byrne‘s “Finite=Alright” from 1997’s Feelings album.

And staying with a more chilled vibe to end today’s playlist, here’s a song from 2016 by Australian synth-pop duo, Empire of the Sun, this is “There’s No Need” and its rather nicely made unofficial video, from the Two Vines album.

That should leave you both invigorated and relaxed, enabling you to enjoy the rest of your Sunday and look forward to more tunes tomorrow.

Have a lovely day and be groovy to each other.

Melodic Randomiser: Isolation Radio, day thirty one.

A full month by anybody’s standards, thirty one days old and the Isolation Radio show is still going strong, aided and abetted by the vicissitudes of the Melodic Randomiser, which has picked for today’s first audio delight…

…a 2013 rap supergroup; Run the Jewels and a track from their eponymous debut album, “36” Chain”, along with its…interesting video.

We follow that with a nice bit of minimal acid electro from Posthuman and a track off the 2018 Mutant City Acid album, this is “Gods of Technology”

And, closing today’s zigzag meander through the musical landscape, we come upon the self-titled, modern prog/space rock album by the always excellent Secret Machines and an 11 minute epic called “The Fire is Waiting”, enjoy.

How was that for a big finish? Fantastic stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree. Join me tomorrow for another blast of random tunage and in the meantime, as a wise man once said; always look on the bright side of life.

Peace
