New music special – Part two: Sampling Twin Peaks.

In case anyone missed it, I’m a massive fan of David Lynch in general and the unique soap noir which is Twin Peaks in particular.

By extension, I’m also a big fan of the late musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Angelo Badalamenti.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before one or other of them featured in my musical endeavours and at the weekend I embarked on a project which involves them both.

I began by extracting just the vocal tracks from two Lynch/Badalamenti collaborations, “A Real Indication and “The Black Dog Runs At Night” and fed them into my sampler. I applied layers of effects to the vocals before adding a lot of industrial electronica and even more effects, then started on the video.

The raw materials were just a few clips from Twin Peaks and its prequel, Fire Walk With Me, which I chopped and blended and sprinkled with electronic fairy dust, before adding the newly recorded soundtrack to produce An Unreal Indication

Sunday night rave: New music and video showcase.

Time for another burst of sonic shock and awe, one from each of my modular synth setups; starting with this beefed up remix of my Puls8 track, with added loops, beats and samples and an FX laden visual accompaniment.

And then there’s a completely new tune, a complex, glitchy electronica piece created using Hexen, mixed with a percussion track made on my sampler. The videos took me the best part of a day each and they are both definitely best enjoyed in full HD.

Sci-fi techno audio visual extravaganza.

Over the weekend I created another multimedia project, to showcase the further evolution of my attempts at musical composition.

This piece, entitled Deadlights, is accompanied by a video constructed from clips of a Japanese science fiction movie called Space Battleship Yamato, along with the usual array of peculiar swirly patterns, expertly synched with the music.

I am also testing out my ability to embed the Instagram video player into posts (a process WordPress doesn’t make easy via the mobile app) so hopefully that will appear directly beneath this paragraph. However, if are unable to access Instagram for the some reason, I am also including the YouTube version. I hope you enjoy my cinematic endeavours, make sure you play it loud. ;~}

And now for your viewing pleasure, my latest audio visual extravaganza; combining a video made using only footage of the 10 mile drive from Bideford to Barnstaple I took on Sunday afternoon, accompanying an extended and somewhat funked-up remix of Kate Bush‘s 1985 classic, Running Up That Hill.

Here we are again, for what is probably the final dose (for now, anyway) of Wednesday Weirdness, as the guest features for Lockdown 2020 come to an end.

I have once more been hard at work in the Return of the Internet Nobody video editing suite, (a chair in the garden) to splice together an even more FX-laden audio visual spectacular; using a greatest hits collection of my animated Instagram posts which are all, need I remind you, made using only this same single photo, soundtracked with one of my remixes.

With any luck, normal service will resume next week.

*ok, so it was one very long line, I’ll give you that.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge.

I set the theme of Food for today’s edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, which was a spur of the moment decision and I didn’t really know what I’d do, although I did think it might be nice to include some movement in my contribution this week.

So I set up a makeshift studio in the kitchen with a tripod and my Stikbot stop motion app and started chopping. As it turned out, the vegetables had more personality than I originally thought.

First I made a couple of artistic compositions…

…followed by fifteen second stop frame animation which I was quite pleased with, but then I started mucking about with some effects and added a soundtrack by Krautrock guru Manuel Göttsching and it ended up as this one and a half minute masterpiece.

I’m sure K’lee will be cooking up something delicious for you HERE.

Return of DJ Nobody.

To help take my mind off the stress and turmoil of the past few weeks, I’ve been mucking around with audio-visual gadgets again, to bring you two additions to my ever-expanding collection of psychedelic remix videos.
