K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

At first I thought K’lee’s choice of theme for this week’s edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge was a case of wishful thinking, when he picked; Signs of Spring’s Return.

But after a quick perusal of our small garden in yesterday’s grey winter light, I concluded that K’lee’s optimism was well founded as there are many new shoots and indications of returning life.

See for yourself…

K’lee has sprung into action and his gorgeous post is now HERE for your viewing pleasure.

Now it’s time for you to show us your green shoots of inspiration…

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Good afternoon and welcome to a bank holiday edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, today determined by K’lee’s choice of theme; Circles.

I decided to go the simple route this week and use something we’ve been waiting for in the garden for some time; the first of our sunflowers to bloom.

Here are some circles within circles.

And here is where you can find K’lee’s photo for the day.

Right then, let’s see what you have to offer…

More from The Mound…

I thought I’d share some colour versions of the pictures I used in the Cosmic Photo Challenge yesterday, showing the recent additions to our garden from the weekend. These are shared from my photographic blog, Photo Sans Frontiers, please pop over and visit if you haven’t checked it out yet…

Photo Sans Frontiers

The burst of Summer over the weekend generated a flurry of activity in our rented garden, including adding some colour to The Mound.

I know I’ve posted many photos our one, sloping corner of unpaved loveliness, but it is interesting to watch an island in a sea of patio slowly evolve.

We also got a great deal on some planters on Sunday(because they’re actually cheap galvanised buckets from Homebase) and by the end of the afternoon the garden looked like this…

In the land of Pooh…

In the land of Pooh…

The best of our recent trip back to the wide open spaces of Sussex…

Photo Sans Frontiers

Last week we went to see friends and family in Crowborough, East Sussex, where the dramatic vistas of Ashdown Forest provided A A Milne with the settings for hisWinnie the Poohstories.

We were lucky with the weather and took the opportunity to wander amongst the pines, heather, bracken and gorse bushes of this, the real Hundred Acre Wood, as well as taking Audrey on a tour of some the other rural playgrounds of my youth.

Becky, who I hadn’t seen for years, joined us on the more-or-less-compulsory trek to Pooh Bridge for a game of Pooh Sticks; whilst Biff, another old friend, provided entrainment for Audrey in the shape of Luigi, the loveable Staffordshire bull terrier and he also kindly organised a trip to a riding stables, where we met some of their horses (before stopping for refreshments at one or two local hostelries).

Come on, let me…

Garden evolution…

The perfect end to a gloriously hot and relaxing long weekend; capturing the changing face of the garden in the sunshine…

Photo Sans Frontiers

It’s good to have a document of how our garden has grown from the unkempt and overgrown blank canvas that we began with, to the oasis of colour, form and texture that we have made for ourselves.

I’ve posted many photos of The Mound, both here and on Diary of an Internet Nobody, but it’s a continually evolving part of the garden which started off like this…

image

…a dead tree stump, overgrown with bluebells, wild garlic and long, unidentified green things, along with a few stems of ash and hawthorn (from seeds of the trees which used to overhang the patio).

And in the last week or so, leading up to today and the glorious bank holiday sunshine, the garden now looks this…

Finally; it might not look exactly like this, but here was Audrey’s fairy garden, beneath the fiery red canopy of the pieris, after a little…

#atozchallenge: P is for Panic!…

image

Good grief! It’s 7 in the evening and today has been non-stop since 6 this morning; I haven’t had a chance to even think about a blog post for today’s A-Z challenge and now I’m cooking dinner for me and Audrey and my mind’s a blank_____________________

Aha!

….no, that won’t work.

I’ll never get an elephant, a swimming pool full of custard, Mel Gibson and a troupe of performing ocelots on hover boards at this short notice…

Maybe…

Hmmmm,…….no, I give up, I’ll have to miss today’s pos..

Oooh, hang on, Photos, some nice Pictures of flowers in the garden, they’re always popular.
And the sun’s out, (or it was when I wrote this) perfect!

Panic over.

#atozchallenge: M is for Mound, and More light…

image

When I got home from work today, I noticed what looked like a heavy sprinkling of fake snow on the patio, so I went out to investigate.
I discovered that the local council had finally sent a tree surgeon to begin work on the small, dense strip of woodland that runs behind our garden and he had felled a large Ash tree, allowing considerably more light into the area in the back corner; The Mound.

The Mound (it’s always referred to as though it deserves capitals, at least I think so) is where two stepped walls meet at right angles, with soil banked up to a high point in the back corner.
We transformed it last year; from the overgrown, wild garlic-infested eyesore it was, into a sort of woodland glade rockery and it has now begun to grow into its new identity.
So, with more light flooding in from the hazy afternoon sunshine, I snapped some photos of The Mound and a few other bits of the garden.
