Tuesday is tunes day.

Last week one of my all-time favourite bands was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; techno pioneers and all round godfathers of electronic music, Kraftwerk.

In 1977, the Dusseldorf based, musical cycling addicts and transportation nerds released the hugely influential and groundbreaking Trans Europe Express. Much of the album features rhythmic motifs derived from the sound of trains clattering over rail tracks, producing an irresistible beat and perfectly matching their “motorik” sound.

So, by way of an homage to their recent elevation to Rock Gods status, I have created a completely original tribute of my own, cheekily entitled Trans Asia Express, which you can sample and/or purchase using the player link below.

Sunday techno rock mix.

Yes, I have been at it again; playing with my sampler and mixing decks to produce a double layered, bespoke and completely original new mix. Combining pumping techno rhythms with wall of sound guitar feedback and metal riffs, I bring you Metalik, an epic masterpiece now available on Bandcamp.

Bank holiday bonus track.

As promised, I’m here to premiere another new tune, which I was originally going to use as part of a project to remix The Cure‘s epic instrumental track, Carnage Visors.

This particular incarnation of the evolving composition proved unsuitable for the final version of the Cure mix, (about which, more later) but it seemed a waste to consign it to the digital scrapheap, so I added some atmospherics to the basic framework and voila!

Friday mix double header.

With another unplanned week off work as corona-furlough strikes again, I’ve been sitting in my garden studio (oh, alright, in a comfortable chair with my phone) adding to my rapidly expanding music catalogue.

First there’s this chilled out cinematic epic, once again produced from scratch with two completely separate, bespoke pieces of music, which I then mixed together on my DJ app…

…and here is the accompanying, multilayered video I created for it:

After which I was inspired by the warmth of the sunshine to make this rather infectious, (in a good way) Latin-tinged, rhythmic electro number…

One liner Wednesday: Midweek mix.

The alternative dictionary takes brief sabbatical again this week, to allow me to show off my latest audio visual project.

I have used my sequencer to compose all the additional music required to make a completely new mix of the Kate Bush song, King Of The Mountain, accompanied by a similarly upgraded video.

Back by (not very) popular demand: DJ dc57 and the Wheels of Steal.

No, that’s not a typo, it’s a reference to the blatant artistic thievery I employ to create my unconventional mashup mixes; jamming together unsuspecting and unlikely tunes for my own twisted entertainment.

Well, I’ve been producing them for long enough now that I thought I should compile some of the best and make them freely available, as an unofficial and totally unauthorised release on my newly re-energised Bandcamp page.

I cannot possibly charge you anything for them – I can’t even allow you to “name your price” due to copyright issues – however, there is nothing to stop anyone from browsing the rest of my back catalogue and choosing to pay for a completely different track, while downloading the free remixes…

Anyway, the album is embedded below, should you wish to sample its delights, and quite a mixed bag of obtuse musical juxtapositions it is, too.

Both the somewhat blunt title and mildly disturbing cover art, (which, you’ll be unsurprised to learn, are Twin Peaks-related in-jokes) are from an album I created to store all the mixes in my phone’s music player, so it seemed only fitting that I use it for its real world release, so to speak.

Midweek music/movie mashup.

Continuing my mission to squish together unlikely combinations of bands with stolen cinematic footage, may I present my latest mashup of musical madness.

This particular peculiar pairing features The Fun Lovin’Criminals and Leftfield, combined with some predictably blood-soaked clips from movie maestro Quentin Tarantino.
