All those people who invaded us over the centuries, they all came from large land masses and had never seen a small bit surrounded by sea before. When the original settlers came ashore the first time, their leader said “I land here”, which is where we get the word “Island”…

Sadly it actually comes from the old English word ” Δ«egland “, meaning “watered land”
