Reaping the wild wind…

The majesty of the Devon countryside, juxtaposed with the imposing, sculptural forms of wind turbine technology make for some great photo opportunities.
Enjoy the spectacle, as posted on Photo Sans Frontiers, my photographic blog.

Photo Sans Frontiers

Yesterday morning I took a drive up to the hills above Barnstaple, which give views of both the River Taw valley below and Fullabrook Down wind farm at the top.

I went up there initially to capture some black and white landscape shots for today’s edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge on Diary of an Internet Nobody, but the views were so spectacular that I stayed to do some experimenting with long exposures of the turbines.

On the way back down the hill, I stopped to grab a few shots of the wooded river valley, lit by the low autumn sun…

…and because it was bonfire night on Saturday, here’s a sparkler sculpture and a strange sparkly gif of Audrey for you.

Oh, by the way, that post title..? That’s just a reason to include this ’80s classic.

Enjoy.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

It’s time for your Monday dose of fantastical photographic fun on K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge and this week K’lee provided us with this enigmatic prompt;

“I’ve got the Monday blues.”

Well, that could go in any direction couldn’t it?

I decided it required some “blue sky thinking” and that alone was inspiration enough to start me off with this…

…but of course I couldn’t just leave it at that, so then I came up with this…

…after which, things got a bit out of hand…

…until, finally, I ended up with this surreal composition:

Try not to have nightmares.

K’lee’s link is now HERE, so let’s see what blue offerings you have for us…

To get involved with the challenge, post a photo to your blog on Monday, add a pingback to this post (or to K’lee’s) and don’t forget to tag your post #CosPhoChal.

Alternatively, add a link to your blog in the comments of either mine or K’lee’s post and we’ll come and check out your entry.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Hello again, I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend, filled with plenty of inspiration for the Cosmic Photo Challenge that I set you on Friday.

The prompt was Street life, which I hope prodded you in the direction of trying out some candid street photography, or at least capturing some creative urban images that evoke the eclectic and vibrant life on the streets of our towns and cities.

I was fortunate, in that Saturday was carnival day in Barnstaple (note for American readers; a “carnival” in England is a parade, with floats, marching bands, costumes etc, sometimes by torchlight in the evening, not just a fairground, although the two generally do go together) and Audrey was intent on taking part in the kids’ procession early in the afternoon. So we headed into town in the morning to find a costume for her, eventually finding a very appropriate monkey outfit for her at the very last shop we tried.

Ulterior motive established for pointing a camera in various directions without drawing undue attention, I set out to immortalise some unsuspecting members of the public, along with capturing Audrey’s carnival debut, (there’s a video of the parade at the end of this post) so any of the following photos which don’t feature a monkey are of complete strangers.

I’m mixing it up a bit, with some black and white, some in colour and a couple with high saturation and HDR effects, (in the candid shot of the couple, this also helps mask the blur of having to shoot surreptitiously whilst walking towards them) so let’s go to the carnival…

A strong wind and he’ll be gone.

Comparing costumes with the competition.

Already a bit the worse for wear.

Do the Funky Monkey!

Family of statues.

Could you tie me up, darling?

Even after the parade, Audrey upstaged the band…

…and you can see her monkeying around at the 50 second mark in this short clip of the parade returning to its starting point.

HERE is a link to K’lee’s photo for today, now that he’s caught up with my timezone, so let’s see whatcha got for us…

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

The start of a new week means the unveiling of a new selection of artistic submissions for K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge and this week we’re getting personal.

I picked the theme for Friday’s prompt, one which encouraged all you lovely people to expose yourselves in the name of photography; Selfies.
I know from some of the comments on the prompt post that the revealing nature of the challenge didn’t appeal to all of you, so I’m looking forward to seeing what creative ways you’ve come up with, to obscure, obfuscate and obliterate your images in the name of art.

However, since I’ve never knowingly been shy or retiring, you’re getting a bonus dose of me today.

When you’ve recovered from that, you can see K’lee’s photo HERE.

But in the meantime, let’s have a look at you…

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

I’m on the road today, heading back up to Sussex to visit friends and family, so I’m hoping that this scheduled post publishes itself on time.

I’ll check in later anyway, to add a link to K’lee’s photo, but until then, here’s my contribution to this week’s prompt; Water.

These sprinkly sculptures were all made using just a hose pipe, with a garden fence in the background, (plus a side order of digital mucking about, obviously) see what you think…

Here’s K’lee’s photo for the day.

Ok, so now let’s see your wet and wonderful offerings.

Go on, splash out on the Cosmic Photo Challenge.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

image

For this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge,  the prompt was “Into the woods”, giving you a pretty broad theme of trees, woodlands, forests, leaves, anything arboreal in fact.

Audrey and I went out into the woods just behind our neighbourhood on Saturday and took a whole load of pictures (I shall be posting a selection of both Audrey’s and my own photos very soon) but today I thought I’d take a few of them and return to a more abstract style, by trying another collage.

I’ve called this one Woodland Cathedral, because it has the look of an enclosed yet illuminated space with a vaulted ceiling and there’s also a contemplative feeling about it.

See what you think…
