That almost makes too much sense. Cupboard is one of those words that looks wrong to me in print because it never seems to be pronounced that way wherever you are.

It’s a bit of a cheat, to be honest, because the etymology of the word means almost exactly that; a sideboard or table where ornate pots and mugs were displayed. ;~}

That’s what I meant when I said it made too much sense. A tea tray is a portable cupboard.
