#atozchallenge: K is for Kenneth…

13 Apr

Another #atozchallenge post, another quick thumb through the B-Z of Twin Peaks and today it’s the turn of a bad guy.

I was careful not to be too specific about how this list would work, partly because I hadn’t planned anything, (as usual) but mainly because I didn’t know if I could find a Peaks-related connection to all 26 25 letters, although I was thinking the problem would be with the usual awkward letters towards the end of the alphabet.

But I’ve had to cheat a bit for K (like I did at the start, for B) and use an actor to fill the title role instead of a character.

Kenneth Welsh plays Dale Cooper’s ex-partner from the FBI, the villainous and quite possibly insane Windom Earle, who has come to Twin Peaks for reasons unknown, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake and bringing back painful memories for Cooper.

Welsh’s portrayal of the deranged genius is everything a criminally insane evil nemesis should be; manic, sadistic and resourceful, causing all manner of confusion and chaos for our heroes to contend with in the last few episodes of season two. He’s also a master disguise, turning up all over town as multiple different characters, sowing the seeds of his dastardly plan and taunting Cooper in the process.
