One liner Wednesday: Alternative dictionary…

19 Oct

These alternative definitions generally fall into two categories; those that I immediately know are going to amuse people and those which may be a case of “Ah, just me then…?”

This one probably falls into the latter:

“Catastrophe” – Pets for prizes.

Nope, I like that too. We iften wonder if ‘cat’ words came before or after people knew what cats were. Ours are currently catatonic. Nicely done!

The prefix “cata-“, from the ancient Greek, means “down”, “back”, or “against”.

But the Egyptians had been worshipping cats long before that, so I wouldn’t want to bet which came first…

I don’t think they’ve ever forgotten the whole “we were worshipped” thing.
